If you’re serious about your health, you’ve probably started tracking your ‘macros.
It’s great way to keep track of your diet and make sure you’re getting the food intake that your body needs.
One of the fun things about macro tracking is that you can hack the diet. As long as your protein, carbs, and fat line up at the end of the day, it doesn’t necessarily matter what you eat (I still advocate keeping it clean though…).
Enter protein pancakes.
Protein pancakes are a fantastic way to have a healthy, macro friendly meal.
I’ve recently started making these pancakes and they have changed my life!
Well, sorta.
They are so good, and the macro content is fantastic.
Ok, enough blabbering, here’s the recipe:
THE BEST PROTEIN PANCAKE RECIPE
•2 scoops vanilla protein powder (I use MyProtein Impact Weigh)
•1 cup oats
•1 tablespoon baking powder (keeps ’em fluffy)
•1 cup milk (2% for me currently, occasionally I’ll use Fairlife protein)
•2 whole eggs
•1 small banana (3.5 oz or so)
•Bit of olive oil cooking spray for the griddle
Step 1.
Blend your powders together (protein, oats, baking powder, etc..) in a blender. I like to make sure they are ground up super fine, this gives a consistent pancake.
Step 2.
Add your liquids (milk, eggs, banana). Blend with powders.
Step 3.
Warm up a griddle and spray with a bit of cooking spray (I like to use an olive oil based spray). Your griddle is ready when it begins to smoke a little bit.
Pour our batter on the griddle. Cook for about a minute then flip.
Enjoy!
Extras
That’s the basic formula. sometimes I’ll get fancy and add cocoa powder/cinnamon/peanut butter/etc…. So dang good!
Oh, and macros end up being:
•58g carbs
•24g fat (with cooking spray included)
•68g protein
TOTAL CALORIES: 714
You can reduce calories by using almond milk, using less oats, removing the banana, etc… Think of this formula as a baseline that allows you to go crazy with.
My best so far has been banana with toasted walnut + coconut flakes.
I also like to throw them in a waffle iron and make waffles. I don’t know why, but waffles are just that much better than pancakes. Protein waffles? Legit.
Let me know the different combo’s you try!
